The CLSI has adopted a new approach to help users when selecting a water treatment system. The designations Type I (for clinical laboratory applications and supplying automated instruments), II and III have been replaced: The water has to be fit for the intended purpose!
Feed water which meets the required specifications must be tested and validated for its suitability for the given application in a laboratory. The water treatment system is validated for the user’s requirements. This calls for regular monitoring and documentation of all of the parameters to ensure safe operation of the water treatment system. Regular maintenance is also required in order to ensure that the system meets the water purity requirements.
